Dare to be Different

In 2015, Jason (our CEO) visited his father at a hospital where he had just gone through a major surgery. Jason marveled at the human and machine collaboration that was occuring in medicine and wondered why it doesn't happen in law. Although self-selection is a factor, we believe a significant part of the problem originates from the billable hour model that is prevalent in the legal industry (although it should be noted that it is usually the clients that demand it). Irrespective of cause, we think the billable hour model has suppressed the incentive to innovate for increased efficiency, which we believe has hurt the legal industry in more ways than is apparent. We also believe that an industry becomes more robust when its participants have varying incentives, rather than a homogeneous one. Meet the team that dares to be different on the next page.
